It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved dog Solveig. She passed peacefully from this mortal existence on Saturday, November 18 in her veterinarian's office with her former master by her side. She would have been fifteen years old this December. She has been lovingly cared for by Carrie Ann and Todd for the past four years and will be missed by her adopted sister Fiona. Her former masters will be eternally grateful for the care and love Solveig received in their care. Solveig gave us great joy as a family pet and companion and was always happy, easy-going, and gentle. True, she could be a stinker--remember the time she helped herself to the Sunday dinner we had left out on the table. We found her on the dining room table with one foot in the mashed potatoes while wolfing down the remains of the pot roast. She also once ate an entire platter of lemon bars left too close to the edge of the counter and has consumed several plates of brownies and chocolate chip cookies in her lifetime. She loved to sneak a leisurely little paddle around the pool when no one was watching and chew on the floating thermometer. Who can forget her most famous moment when she was heard by several family members to say (quite clearly, I might add) "I wanna go ou-shide!"? We will always remember the good times and loyalty of our sweet friend Solveig. She was preceeded in death by her other adopted sister Hannah and I can picture her today as they met again in doggy heaven and greeted one another with leaps and bounds, unhampered by blindness, deafness, or aching joints. They are probably running together through a green field looking for squirrels. I invite all family members to share their favorite Solveig thoughts and memories. Farewell, loyal and sweet friend. We look forward to seeing you again some day.

Ohhh!! I know I never spent much time with Solveig but I did meet her! I am sad for your loss! What a great tribute.
Sweet dumb dog. She was never particularly ambitious or driven to do much, was she? She just wanted a nice pat on the head and some food. I almost did the job a few years ago when I took the two dogs for a hike up Rock Canyon...about two miles up, and I was truly scared she would collapse by the end. I think she didn't move for three days following, but what a sweet girl. If you want to read a trippy take on dogs in the afterlife, read this:

ok the link didn't work--google this: "near death experience dog" and read about maggi the springer, who escorted her beloved master around, showing her three degrees of glory and her own home, etc...for real, it's so interesting, and don't ask how I knew about it.
I was given no warning...! And suddenly there is this blog post and my old doggy pal is dead? And I make a big scene as I'm sitting at my inlaw's kitchen table - have a big reaction and I'm trying not to cry. I'll post my memories when I'm not feeling the shock. I loved that dog. Thank you, Carrie and Todd for taking such good care of her in her golden years.
What happened?
She killed another dog and received the death penalty. (Too soon for jokes?)
Yeah, maybe so.....
Oh, one has to read the comments before leaving one. I feel like the scene in Steel Magnolias when they have laughter through the tears...not real live tears, but I am almost close to tears...until Abby's joke...Solveig would have wanted us to laugh.
Good dog.
Solveig Sweetpea Oscarson. favorite memories: being towed by her on my rollerblades down appin falls until she would see a squirrel and take me flying into someones front yard. finding her and several empty butter containers...more than several times. finding her more than half way thru a 50lb bag of dog food (and two days of bloated stomach and nasty messes... she WOULD have kill herself eating if we hadn't found her). watching her and hannah play in the snow in boston. picking her over all the other labs because she hopped instead of walked. and the few nights in high school when, with all of the other kids off at school and or married, i would fall asleep in the laundry room, using solveig as a pillow. abby's right. she wasnt terrible gifted, intellegent or obedient, but she was a great pet. bye solveig.
Um, will her ashes be placed next to Hannah's?
Dad wants to mix the two together and put them in the garden. I'm not real comfortable with that but I don't know why. Of course, I'm the weirdo that still has Hannah's ashes in a little box in a drawer...next to Dad's bed, but he doesn't know that, so don't tell him. It might freak him out.
