Spring Break

Spring Break officially began today for Waverly. When is YOUR "Spring Break", and what are you going to do?

My "spring break" took place this week as I traveled to Las Vegas with Amy, Chris, Jake, Matt, Hannah, and Jenny to visit Abby and James. We stayed in St. George both nihgts (a very "spring break" place to be this time of year) and visited the Strip in Las Vegas and the In-n-Out (very "spring break" activities). Then we went hiking. We also ate LOTS of junk food and read books and watched movies in the car. Minus the beer and the cruising main street, this was as spring break-y as it gets!

We usually go camping, but as I look out at the SNOW STORM of the century... I am wondering what we will do! *chuckle*

Do you think I could convince my family that painting the livingroom would be a good spring break activity?

Is it really snowing in Utah? I'm going to visit next Saturday (BY MYSELF! No kids!) and the weather had better cooperate. I'm looking forward to seeing you who are there and having some R & R.

I come back on the following Tuesday and we are immediately (and I mean IMMEDIATELY) driving to Palo Alto for Dad Giles' retirement/birthday party. It should be a big ta-do. Unfortunately this means Waverly will miss almost the entire week of school AFTER spring break.

Pender, have you not SEEN what goes on at Spring Breaks? I know that I've heard the excuse that church schools have fewer breaks so that their students can get out sooner and snag the good jobs...but I think that MTV does a good job of disueding even ME from letting my future kids participate in anything that says the word "spring break" in it... And Bud, driving down to Las Vegas cost me $75. Coming out to Hawaii would cost me $750. You know I love you, but YOU wanted to go to school in Hawaii...(and don't forget that I've visited you TWICE!!!) Aren't you on perpetual spring break?

Yah, Spence - most people GO to HAWAII FOR SPRING BREAK! Trust me, we would come visit you often if we could. I've never been to Hawaii...

Did anyone else catch "Spring Break Shark Attack" last night on CBS? :) I recorded it so I could just fast forward to all of the scenes where the sharks attacked the half-clad, half-drunk college students in the ocean. Good times...

Let's see--today I am going to work, tomorrow I am going to work, Wednesday I work in the temple, Friday I work in the temple, and Saturday I have to work. Umm, that leaves me Thursday for my Spring Break. I don't think I can make it to Hawaii and back. Guess I'll clean the house and do homework. What an exciting life I live! Spencer, are we supposed to feel bad for you that you don't have a Spring Break? You are living in Hawaii, for Pete' sake!!! Every time you go outside, take a deep breath, look around you at the sky, the ocean, the beautiful trees and flowers. There! Instant mini-Spring break! I do feel badly that you sometimes feel isolated. Come back to the Mainland after graduation! We all miss you! However, I can't wait to come back to Hawaii for your big day! Carrie, I agree with you. The stuff that is going on at South Padre Island here in Texas right now would curl your hair and make you retch. I think we are both officially fuddie-duddies.

We're not fuddie-duddies (is that really how you spell it? :) The world IS actually going to hell. The teenagers are leading the way... Trust me... I'm an expert because I DID watch "Spring Break Shark Attack". When they weren't being eaten by sharks they were drinking and hookin' up.

I actually just found the word "fuddy-duddy (plural--fuddy-duddies" in my dictionary. Sorry, I mispelled it the first time. It means, "an old-fashioned conservative, or very fussy person." Hmmm, if the shoe fits....that just might be me. We get enough reports about Spring Break on South Padre Island to indicate that those kids are NOT there to read their scriptures and meditate. They seem bent on destoying brain cells instead. Yep, I'm a fuddy-duddy! But I bet I have more brain cells left than some of those guys at the end of this week.

Hey...when is my spring break? I really should have read the fine print before I signed on for this job. Las Vegas was great but it WAS traveling with 3 kids in a mini-van. I remember even in high school being really, really surprised that other kids my age were taking off for a week of wet Tshirt contests and beer with their parent's money AND permission! It just seemed like a really dumb idea...even then!
