Can we assume the Oscarson contingency in Houston is safe and sound? I'd love more info on how the Hurrican (or lack thereof) affected ya'll. Did you have church today? Was it one big Relief Society meeting to organize relief efforts? What can we do to help? Love you all!

At least for our part of Houston, Rita came with a whimper instead of a bang. It was a good test of our preparedness, though. The bad news is that the Beaumont and Orange Stakes were hit pretty hard and sustained a lot of damage. They are assessing it now and I'm sure we will receive assignments to go help there with cleanup. We had one big joint sacrament meeting today with all of the wards attending in one building. The AC wasn't working very well so basically we took the sacrament, listened to three testimonies by a bishop, the Stake president (your father in case you hadn't heard) and Elder Ellis of the 70, who is in our stake. Then they let us go home. Is this how it feels to belong to a regular church? A one-hour meeting and then home? I'm afraid I could get used to it. Thank you all for your love and concern and especially your prayers. Anybody need batteries?
Nobody asked but I'll chime in too.
We prepared with 72 hour kits, our Y2K 55 gallon drums full of water, and a lifetime supply of Chef Boyardee mini-ravioli. I had to use my girth and exploit my children to maneuver through the canned shelf crowds at Wal-Mart to ensure we wouldn't be stuck with the much maligned execrable Beefaroni. Yechh. I'm not proud of myself but we were prepared to defend our ravioli against would-be looters in a worst case storm scenario. We also stocked up on toilet paper and personal hygeine products like deodorant because who wants to face confinement in a small space with a lot of other people with stinky pits? We're not savages, you know!
In all seriousness, you Oscarson kids have no idea how fortunate you are to be born into such an amazing family with an inspiring spiritual leader for a father. Pres. Oscarson always knows the right things to say for the occasion to uplift, motivate and make people like me with a heathen soul strive towards an eternal goal. Yesterday's speech was a prime example.
It meant a lot to me to "hunker" with the fam. Dad told us he hopes to never forget what it was like the day he told his co-workers and store managers (who were calling him every 5 minutes) "I'm outa here." And he left straightway from CO to come home and take care of his family (and his stake family). We won't forget it either, Dad!
We welcome visitors, ewblady, but we're all very curious to know your real identity. Come on, 'fess up!
I'm glad you all are alive. I'm past fearing hurricanes and am on to fearing earthquakes...don't you love conference weekend?
Will you all evacuate to Houston when the earthquake comes? That actually terrifies me too. Let's a jump start and all move to Missouri!
